Sports Photography: the how and why.
It’s a new Chapter at Suzanna Kennedy Photography (if you’ve noticed my website is laid out like a book, then pun absolutely intended). My life as a Newborn Photographer is a teenager this year, and like any child becoming a teenager, there have been growing pains, or ahem, the dreaded ‘P’ word.
When a Photographer is in a creative rut, it is only normal to grab that camera and photograph everything. Step outside of your comfort zone, try new techniques, and seek new muses. Naturally, during *the-C-word* my two Children were my muses. We had the time, and away we went. What all started as a fun creative session with my daughter, turned into an entirely new genre for me. Sports Photography!
Since then, and with much grumbling from my kids and husband, I’ve honed those skills, developed new techniques, amassed new lights and machines and backdrops, and spent countless hours in the studio with my less-than-impressed family as my subjects. I moved lighting around, incorporated smoke and water, and taught myself a whole new side of photo editing.
I can honestly say, I was shocked by the reaction!
That one photo of my daughter, as a bad-ass ball player, took off. From individual Athletes, to teams, to an Organization, all the way up to gaining Press Credentials for the Women’s Canada vs USA Rivalry Series. What. An. Experience. As is my usual MO, I jumped in with both feet and my entire being. And I haven’t looked back. It was Sports Photography, all the way.
That brings us to the now. Dramatic, Colourful, Special Effects, and only getting better from here!
